How to Measure Your Laptop for a Bag
Two computers with the same screen size can have different bodies. Measure the whole closed device before choosing a sleeve, briefcase or backpack.
What you need
Use a ruler or measuring tape and a flat surface. Keep the units consistent. If you carry a hard case on the laptop, leave it attached for every measurement.
Step 1: Measure the width
Close the laptop. Measure the longest edge from left to right, including any part that extends beyond the main body. Write down the full measurement rather than rounding down.
Step 2: Measure the depth
Measure from the front edge to the back hinge. Include a protruding hinge or feet if they increase the space the device needs.
Step 3: Measure the thickness
Measure the closed device at its thickest point, including feet and any protective shell. A tapered edge can be thinner than the hinge, so do not measure only the narrowest part.
Step 4: Compare with the right bag measurement
Use listed interior or compartment dimensions when provided. Exterior measurements are the outside of the bag and do not guarantee usable space. Packaging dimensions describe shipping, not fit. A model labeled with a screen-inch size still needs a physical size comparison.
| Your measurement | Compare it with |
|---|---|
| Device width | Usable compartment width |
| Device depth | Usable compartment height or depth, according to the bag’s orientation |
| Device thickness | Compartment thickness and closure clearance |
Step 5: Account for the rest of your load
A tight device fit leaves little space for a charger or notebook. Do not force accessories into the laptop area. Allow for padding, seams and zipper openings, and choose separate organization where it suits your routine.
If a measurement is missing
Do not assume a fit from a photo. Contact us with your device’s three measurements and the bag you are considering. If the available information cannot establish fit, choose a style with clearer interior measurements.
When your bag arrives, check the fit gently with the packaging kept intact. The device should go in and come out without force, and the closure should move freely. See our return policy before taking it into daily use.
